When you think about ear disease or ear infections, you immediately think “kids”.

And while ear infections are indeed common in children, adults get them too.

Many common ear diseases share one symptom: inflammation. Whether it’s an infection caused by a virus, bacteria, or fungus or simply an accumulation of moisture in the ear, inflammation is the culprit that makes most ear diseases painful and bothersome.

Fortunately, reducing that inflammation is precisely how spending regular time in a sauna for ear disease can be helpful. In an infrared sauna, heat penetrates the body 1-2 inches, heating the body from the inside and improving blood circulation, and increased blood flow helps relieve the swelling and reduce pain.

How do you know an ear problem is afoot?

Ear infections can manifest in different ways depending on the part of the ear affected.

Outer ear: An outer ear infection is also called Swimmer’s ear. This is characterized by redness, warmth and pain.

Middle ear: Middle ear infections are accompanied by ear pain and fever. In some rare instances, this type of infection is accompanied by drainage of fluid from the ears or hearing loss. Middle ear infections usually arise because of a cold or respiratory infection that spread to special tubes in your ears known as Eustachian tubes.

Labyrinthitis: This is an infection of the labyrinth of your ear which is also commonly referred to as the inner ear. This type of infection is accompanied by dizziness, hearing loss and a spinning sensation known as vertigo.

Treating an ear infection

If the only symptom you’re facing is an earache, it may be better to wait for a day or two before going to the doctor.

However, if you find it bothersome, regardless of which type of infection you may be experiencing, we always advice that you see a doctor for proper diagnosis so that you can get the appropriate treatment.

In the case of middle ear and inner ear infections, they can get serious if the bacteria or virus causing the infection is not effectively treated with an antibiotic or antiviral.

It is also common to feel great after one or two doses of your antibiotic (in the case of a bacterial infection). However, it is always important to stick with the whole course. This is because when you don’t take the full course of antibiotics, you’re risking the development of antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are very difficult to treat and can cause permanent damage.

Pain medications or medicine to help you deal with dizziness in case of an inner ear infection may also be prescribed.

So whatever you do, please finish your medicine!

Using Infrared Saunas from Good Health Saunas

During an infection, we experience fever.

Fever is our body’s natural way of signaling to the immune cells of your body that there is a problem.

When sitting in your sauna for flu, your skin temperature rises to 40°C (104°F) and internal body temperature rises to about 38°C (100.4°F).

This process is known as hyperthermia.

Creating this “artificial fever” has a powerful way of getting rid of infections.

Using heat for healing and specifically for colds has long been an effective natural remedy for curing many diseases for centuries. Heath has been used to treat colds, muscle pain and even wounds.

During an ear infection, you might feel drained and tired. A good session in the sauna will be enough to energize you so you can recover and get back to normal life quickly.

Sitting in one of our infrared saunas when you have an ear infection increases blood flow. Heat opens up blood vessels so that more blood can be transported easily. This easier transport of blood means that the immune cells which are also carried in your blood will be able to reach the infection faster and help you fight off the ear infection quicker.

Hyperthermia boosts the immune system. In several research studies, scientists have shown that heating up the body causes an increase in the number of immune cells in your body. Thus sitting in one of our infrared saunas will help to increase the number of disease-fighting cells your body produces so that you can be free to enjoy life once again.

Additionally, because our infrared saunas do not have the humidity and moisture of standard saunas and steam baths, there will not be extra moisture to exacerbate your infection. Secondly, the lower temperature of the infrared saunas from Good Health Saunas have lower temperatures that will leave you feeling relaxed and rejuvenated.

Getting an ear infection is uncomfortable. It may even keep you out of work for a few days. That is lost time and productivity. Get over your ear infection faster with advice from your doctor and a good infrared sauna session.
