Hot Yoga: Overstretched

Yoga is not intended to be a cardio workout. A very simple concept has been twisted into a hot box of dangers. Yoga was originally developed to center oneself, body and mind. The relaxing, paced movements will align your mental and physical stabilities. Hot yoga, as described in the name, focuses on sweating out toxins through activity, and stretching muscles even more than traditional yoga. This causes overstretching. Muscles are designed to move only so far based on many factors in your body such as, genetics. The users in hot yoga can stretch too far while their muscles are relaxed from high heat. This dangerous stretch can rip muscles fibers.

Hot Yoga: Dehydrated (Too Hot)

Many users of hot yoga will experience dehydration and hyperthermia. Hyperthermia is when the body core temperature reaches temperatures vastly higher than normal. This can result in nausea, fainting, dizziness, headaches, vomiting, low blood pressure, and dehydration. Dehydration is a severe lack of water in the body and is very unhealthy leading to seizures, headaches, confusion, and in extreme cases, death. Hot yoga classes can last for 90 minutes, many users do not take in the necessary amount of water to keep their body hydrated from loss of the pool of sweat at their feet. Yoga is not designed for cardio. Hot yoga is dangerous to many users for many reasons.

Infrared Saunas: Cardio

If cardio and heat is what you seek, then an infrared sauna can safely provide both. A typical session in a sauna is around 15 minutes. The risk of hyperthermia and dehydration is very low. All the while, in response to the heat of a sauna, the heart rate of the user is rapidly increased which activates the natural cooling system of the body. A 15 minutes session in a sauna will sweat off many calories through this process alone without the dangers of hot yoga.

Infrared Saunas: Clear Body and Mind

Yoga was designed to clear the mind and relax the body. While hot yoga is intense and dangerous. Infrared saunas mimic the results of traditional yoga. An infrared sauna will relax sore muscles, ease tension, and calm the user from a long stressful day.
